Ken Sapp insulted members of District 91 on Friday when he belittled Stephanie Klick for being in the new portion of the district, as a large portion of District 91 constituents are.
Klick has lived in the same home for 12 years and was drawn into a new district during the 82nd Legislature. Sapp was at a Republican women’s lunch Friday when he suggested citizens drawn into new districts are less significant. The new portion of the District 91 is in Fort Worth.
This is surprising given that a large portion of his voters are in exactly the same position as Klick, a position redistricting always puts people in.
Sapp’s carelessness toward his own district won’t win him any trust, which is a problem given that legislative politics always include some concern about whether candidates are in it for the district or the lobby.
Additionally, AgendaWise discovered an expenditure from Sapp’s campaign to his consultant’s Murphy Turner Associates in the precise amount of the cost of Texans for Limited Government PAC mailer (to the penny – $7,737.72) sent out attacking Klick for being one of the members of the redrawn portion of the district. Murphy Turner is Sapp’s consultant and Holly Turner is the treasurer for the Texans for Limited Government PAC. Holly Turner’s husband is the “Turner” in “Murphy Turner”.
This certainly creates to appearance that Sapp paid for someone else to put their name on his mailer. AgendaWise will monitor the situation as new finance reports are published.
