Last week the Times Register of Fort Worth published a letter to the editor taking issue with State Representative Vicki Truitt's not reporting on her travels to Turkey in 2011. Shelia Pike Franklin, a constituent, has asked Truitt for her report on the trip.
The request for information is slightly more interesting given the level of attention that has been paid to Gulen charter schools in Texas, a charter school network owned by a Turkish man kicked out of Turkey by the old government for being too radical. A New York Times profile on the Gulen charter schools kicked off scrutiny of the group.
In late 2011 AgendaWise requested calendars and travel reimbursements of the 44 House committee chairs. Truit’s Turkey trip is noted in her legislative calendar but we have not yet found reimbursements for this trip in the documents we’ve received, though we are still reviewing them.
Truitt has drawn the ire of Texas media outlets for her anti-transparency work during the 2011 legislative session. http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/01/13/3658889/teacher-retirement-system-of-texas.html#storylink=cpy
